Lightning Review: Spoon – “Transference”

Since its release day, I’ve not seen Transference mentioned anywhere. Why? I’m not sure, but I think it’s a combination of things.  Here they are: 1) Lack of instant “singles” on the album, 2) You are buying way too much music to let the good stuff soak in and write your own darn blog post and 3) Spoon? What is Spoon?

If you fall into any of the above categories, Transference is certainly not for you. But if you fall anywhere else on the spectrum, you might just enjoy being completely confused by this album.  It’s full of good grooves that might have been hooks if they didn’t last for entire songs.  If you’ve tried it and/or just don’t get it, try this – crawl in your room late at night and pull on your biggest, puffiest headphones. Then, put on “Out Go the Lights.”  After that’s all over, sit up and write your own blog post about how Britt Daniel and Co. can’t write songs anymore.

Or, let me save you a few steps.  Just stay in bed and hit repeat.
